APIM 07-010B: Aircraft/Ground Information Exchange new 830 document (pdf, 67K)
APIM 08-010: Manager of Air-Ground Interface Communications (MAGIC) (pdf, 36K)

Goal: Define aircraft data network, file server, and broadband data communication functions that will facilitate the transfer of large amounts of airline data both operational and administrative using Internet Protocols (IP).

Scope: The scope of this activity is to develop standards to manage, exchange, and display technical information needed by the flight crew, cabin crew, and maintenance personnel to accomplish their responsibilities more efficiently. This may require the update to various ARINC Standards as necessary:

  • ARINC Report 821: NSS Functional Definition
  • ARINC Specification 822: Air/Ground Wireless Communication (Gatelink)
  • ARINC Project Paper 830: Air/Ground Information Exchange
  • ARINC Project Paper 839: MAGIC

Benefit: Airlines anticipate commercially-available information and data networking technology will be used to manage the vast amount of information needed to support the operation of their aircraft. Electronic distribution of operational data and technical information will increase airline productivity and efficiency.

Work Program :

The primary focus of the AGIE/MAGIC Subcommittee is the development of Project Paper 830: Aircraft/Ground Information Exchange (AGIE) and to coordinate the industry effort to prepare standards for IP Communications Management called MAGIC. Areas of standardization that include:

  • Identification of MAGIC interface boundaries
  • Segregation principles for various aircraft domains
  • Application software interface to and from MAGIC
  • Aircraft interface to and from air/ground communication systems
  • Forward fit and retro fit considerations using air/ground comm system interface proxy in MAGIC
  • End-to-end communication management functions and interfaces

Current Drafts:

Draft 2 of ARINC Project Paper 839: Function Definition of Airborne Manager of Air-Ground Interface Communications (MAGIC)
