Aircraft Network and File Server (ANFS) SubcommitteeLast Update: September 12, 2008 Co-Chairman: Phil Hardy - CO APIM: Commercial Of The Shelf (COTS) Network File Server (pdf, 17K) Goal: Develop standards for aircraft data network, file server, and data communications systems that facilitate the management and transfer of large amounts of operational and administrative technical information required by airline flight crew, cabin crew, and maintenance personnel. Potential applications including storage of Maintenance Manuals, Illustrated Parts Catalog, Minimum Equipment List and Flight Operations Data. Scope: The scope of this task is to develop standards for aircraft data network and file server to manage, exchange, and display operational and administrative technical information needed for use by flight crew, cabin crew, and maintenance personnel accomplish their responsibilities efficiently. These include:
Wireless data communications between the aircraft and the ground and between onboard applications and the file servers are expected to be in accordance with the IEEE 802.11 family of wireless LAN standards. Benefit: Airlines anticipate commercially-available information and data networking technology will be used to manage the vast amount of information needed to support the operation of their aircraft. Electronic distribution of operational data and technical information will increase airline productivity and efficiency. AEEC General Session (October 2006) Update: AEEC adopted Draft 1 of Project Paper 822: Wireless Networks. AEEC also approved development of Supplement 1 to ARINC 822.
