Data Recorder (DFDR) Subcommittee
Last Update:
July 20, 2010
Chairman: Robert Swanson - FedEx
Goal: The goal of the DFDR Subcommittee is to ensure that aircraft flight data recording system standards meet airline operational needs and evolving regulatory requirements. In accomplishing this goal, the subcommittee considers issues such as including health monitoring of aircraft systems and components, flight operations quality assurance (FOQA) initiatives, and current and impending regulatory requirements.
Project: :Preparation of Characteristic 757A: Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR)
Scope: The scope of the project is to introduce Recorder Independent Power Supply (RIPS) status reporting through the CVR. This includes definition of pins for power return circuits. Update of pin definitions in Characteristic 777: Recorder Independent Power Supply (RIPS) is expected as part of this activity.
Benefit: The introduction of the status reporting will allow maintenance personnel to determine the health of RIPS through an on-board maintenance system without the addition of complex circuitry to the RIPS unit.
