APIM: Flight Simulators for use of Avionics and software in flight simulators
Recent new aircraft types have highlighted the requirement to update ARINC 610B to better cover aircraft employing integrated modular avionics, include additional data bus protocols (ARINC 664, CAN) and additional avionics equipment that is now becoming standard (EFB, HUD etc.).
The ARINC 610C SimSoft Working Group developed ARINC 610C: Guidance for Design of Aircraft Equipment and Software for Use in Training Devices, building on the existing Standard of ARINC 610B to address these changes in avionics and the simulator industry.
ARINC 610C will include the following to give the reader a better understanding of the needs of simulator designers and operators:
- List typical functionality required on training devices to be covered by ARINC 610B e.g. extraction of flight plan data for display on Instructor Station.
- Provide examples of the type of issues that requires SimSoft implementation to assist suppliers of software applications, particularly for systems not traditionally requiring SimSoft functionality, to assess if ARINC 610 functionality is required for their system.
* ARINC 610C is a fully-mature draft, and currently under adoption consideration
