APIM: ARINC Standard for the establishment of a Simulator Quality Management System (pdf, 17K)
The purpose of the working group is to develop an ARINC Report to provide program guidance for the introduction and usage of a simulator quality management system in an operational flight simulation training environment. The resulting ARINC Standard will provide a clear reference for Flight Simulator sponsors to meet the requirements for establishing a working Quality Management System and supporting manual in order to comply with international standards and regulations (JAR and 14 CFR Part 60).
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has welcomed industry feedback on simplifying the transition to an expanded SQMS (voluntary) that could allow a simulator sponsor to extend an evaluation interval to 36 months. The group will also discuss and develop material to provide a clear reference for simulator sponsors operating in FAA regulations to meet an Extended Evaluation Interval (EEI) program.
The methods and format of SQM submissions to regulatory agencies will also be a topic for potential standardization with the FAA.
The SQMS Working Group provides an open forum for participants to share their experiences with the development and implementation of QMS in their respective organizations. The often discusses:
- Feedback from participants of recent regulatory QMS audits
- Survey of use of the FSEMC sample SQMS guidance document
- Industry best practices
- Harmonization of QMS programs across regulatory entities
