Systems Architecture and Interfaces (SAI) Subcommittee

ARINC Project Initiation/Modification (APIM)

The SAI Subcommittee provides technical leadership in the development of ARINC Standards used for new aircraft and major derivatives programs. It works with Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) to develop standards for CNS/ATM, including standards for equipment capable of satisfying FAA NextGen and the Single European Sky initiative. The SAI Subcommittee investigates the application of new technologies and prepares APIMs where benefits are achievable. APIMs for AEEC Executive Committee consideration are first reviewed by the SAI Subcommittee.

The broad avionics systems role enables SAI to look at operational objectives, available technologies and potential solutions. SAI will review manufacturer proposals for new systems and equipment, and develop recommendations concerning preferred avionics architecture, desired interfaces and overall systems level engineering. SAI initiatives are aimed at improving flight crew situational awareness through recommendations that promote standards necessary to meet the desires of both airlines and suppliers.

The airline voice is clearly articulated in SAI where airline operational needs are applied to supplier proposals to forge industry consensus. These coordinated development efforts result in airline-preferred solutions for the airlines user community and a broad market for the suppliers. A coordinated approach to CNS/ATM will support planned growth while minimizing the number of equipment changes to meet emerging airspace requirements.
