Traffic Surveillance Subcommittee

Maintain Traffic and Surveillance standards which define avionics airborne equipment with Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II), Air Traffic Control Transponder (ATCRBS/Mode S), and/or Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Out/In functionalities. Increase flight crew situational awareness and establish enabling platform for future surveillance capabilities.

ARINC Characteristic 735B, Traffic Computer (TCAS and ADS-B Functionality), describes airborne equipment with TCAS II functions and interfaces and protocols necessary to support Cockpit Display of Traffic Information (CDTI) based on reception of ADS-B In data and Traffic Information Services-Broadcast (TIS-B) data.

ARINC Characteristic 718A, Mark 4 Air Traffic Control Transponder (ATCRBS/Mode S) describes a standard Mark 4 ATCRBS/Mode S transponder with Extended Interface Functions (TIF). It defines a commercial air traffic transponder capable of supporting TCAS functions, advanced surveillance defined by ICAO as CNS/ATM, Automatic Dependent Surveillance- Broadcast (ADS-B) per RTCA DO-260B, Extended Squitter, and enhanced surveillance capabilities as defined in the ICAO Manual on Mode S Specific Services.

ARINC Characteristic 768, Integrated Surveillance System (ISS) describes an airborne equipment system that performs multiple surveillance functions. The ISS may include components or modules that may perform a combination of the following functions: TCAS II, Air Traffic Transponder (ATCRBS/Mode S), Weather Radar/Predictive Windshear, Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS)/Reactive Windshear (RWS), and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Out/In.
