DLK Users Forum Meeting Report. Meeting held February 5-6, 2019, in Seal Beach, California.

The Data Link (DLK) Users Forum (DLUF) met February 5-6, 2019 in Seal Beach, California. An airline-only roundtable meeting was held the morning of February 7, 2019. A special thanks to Boeing for hosting the meeting in Seal Beach.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC)/Data Communication (Data Comm) program provided a detailed status report including performance metrics. NAV CANADA and the United Kingdom (UK) National Air Traffic Services (NATS) provided an update on their CPDLC programs.

The Harris Corporation provided an overview of the FAA Data Comm En Route issues that were observed last year when operating initial En Route services at three key sites. A panel discussion moderated by Harris consisting of avionics manufacturers, communication service providers (CSPs) and air frame manufacturers was held to address their respective issues and plans for resolving the issues.

Inmarsat provided an overview of Classic Aero and SwiftBroadband (SBB) satellite communications (satcom) services, and their commitment to long term support of safety services. Iridium recently completed the launching of the Iridium NEXT satellites. There have been eight launches for a total of 75 satellites (66 operational satellites and 9 in orbit spares) in orbit. The final launch was completed on January 11, 2019.

Collins Aerospace IMS and SITAONAIR provided an update on their alternate VHF Digital Link (VDL) frequency deployments and an update on their respective data link services.   

The next DLUF meeting is scheduled for September 17-18, 2019, in Dublin, Ireland. It will be hosted by Airtel ATN. An airline-only roundtable meeting is scheduled for the morning of September 19, 2019. Details will be announced through the usual channel.
