DLK Users Forum Meeting Report. Meeting held February 4-5, 2020, in Palm Bay, Florida.
The Data Link (DLK) Users Forum (DLUF) met February 4-5, 2020 in Palm Bay, Florida. An airline-only roundtable meeting was held the morning of February 6, 2020. A one-day joint session was held in conjunction with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Performance-based Operations Aviation Rulemaking Committee (PARC) Communication Working Group (CWG). A special thanks to L3Harris Technologies for hosting both meetings in Palm Bay.
This meeting’s primary emphasis was obtaining the status of the FAA Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC)/Data Communication (Data Comm) program including performance metrics. NAV CANADA and the United Kingdom (UK) National Air Traffic Services (NATS) provided an update on their CPDLC programs.
L3Harris Technologies provided an overview of the FAA Data Comm En Route issues observed during initial En Route services at two key sites.
Inmarsat provided an overview of Classic Aero and SwiftBroadband (SBB) satellite communications (satcom) services, and their commitment to long term support of safety services. Iridium provided an update on their enhanced Certus data and voice services made possible with the new constellation of Iridium NEXT satellites.
Collins Aerospace IMS and SITAONAIR provided an update on their VHF Digital Link (VDL) alternate frequency deployments and an update on their respective datalink networks.
