DLK Users Forum Meeting Report. Meeting held February 1-2, 2021, Online.

The Data Link Users Forum (DLUF) met February 1-2, 2021 in two online sessions. The meeting concentrated on key issues identified by the airlines. An airline-only roundtable meeting was held the morning of February 3, 2021.

The meeting’s primary topics were:

  • The status of various Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) programs, e.g., Federal Aviation Administration (FAA),
    NAV Canada, United Kingdom (UK) National Air Traffic Services (NATS) and EUROCONTROL Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MAUC) Datalink Operations.
  • Spectrum interference issues impact on operators and avionics
  • Air-ground communications/L-Band Satellite Communications (satcom) updates

This meeting’s primary emphasis was to provide the status of the FAA CPDLC Data Communication (Data Comm) program including performance metrics. NAV CANADA, the UK NATS and EUROCONTROL provided an update on their CPDLC programs including performance metrics.

Aviation Spectrum Resources Incorporated (ASRI) and Airbus provided information on the spectrum interference issues impacting both operators and avionics. Inmarsat responded to the spectrum issue concerns impacting avionics terminals.

Inmarsat also provided an overview of the Inmarsat Safety Services (Classic Aero and SwiftBroadband). Iridium provided an update on their enhanced Certus data and voice services and expressed concerns of possible spectrum interference impacting their avionics satcom terminals.

The next Data Link Users Forum will be held September 13-14, 2021 online. An Airline Only Roundtable meeting is scheduled for September 15, 2021 online. Details will be announced through the usual channel.
