DLK Users Forum Meeting Report. Meeting held September 14-15, 2020, Online.

The Data Link (DLK) Users Forum (DLUF) concentrated on key issues identified by the airlines. An online meeting format was used to meet needs of participants during the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting had record attendance. 
The meeting’s primary topics were:

  • The status of the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) (DLS) recovery plan and European datalink performance.
  • An update of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) program was provided. The data link service providers (DSP) presented an update on their European data link services and performance metrics.
  • Iridium provided an update on the NEXT satellite network, Certus service classes being offered, and a development program in support of aviation services.
  • Inmarsat provided an overview of classic aero and SwiftBroadband-Safety (SB-S) satellite communications (satcom) services and the IRIS partnership to enable satellite-based communications in dense continental airspace.

The next AEEC DLK Users Forum is scheduled for February 1-2, 2021. The meeting will be held online. An Airline Only Roundtable virtual meeting is scheduled for February 3, 2021.
