Draft 1 of ARINC Project Paper 792A: Multi-Modem Ku-band and Ka-band Satellite Communication System with Fiber Optics Interfaces

The ARINC Industry Activities (IA) staff prepared Draft 1 following Ku-band and Ka-band Satellite Communication (KSAT) Subcommittee online meetings held December 2-3, 2020, January 5-6, 2021, and March 3, 2021. This draft includes inputs prepared by Totaport, Honeywell, and Gogo Commercial Aviation an Intelsat Company.

ARINC Project Paper 792A defines a satellite communication system that supports multiple modems and fiber optics interfaces. The specification will enable the use of electronically steerable antennae that can service one or more Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite networks. 

Airborne equipment built to the recommendations of ARINC Project Paper 792A will leverage the characteristics and interfaces of the exiting small factor satcom equipment built to the recommendations of ARINC Characteristic 792.

A mature draft of ARINC Project Paper 792A is expected by April 2022.

This draft will be reviewed at future KSAT Subcommittee online conferences. The next KSAT Subcommittee conference is scheduled for May 10, 2021.
