Internet Protocol Suite (IPS) Subcommittee Meeting Report. Meeting held January 19-21, 2021, Online Meeting.
The IPS Subcommittee met January 19-21, 2021 in three online sessions. Participants of ICAO WG-I, EUROCAE WG-108, and RTCA SC-223 attended.
The IPS Subcommittee reviewed inputs to ARINC Project Paper 858: Internet Protocol Suite (IPS) for Aeronautical Safety Services – Airborne IPS System Technical Requirements.
IPS Security (Section 4) was discussed in detail. This section will be aligned with ICAO security guidance. Additional detail will be provided in Supplement 1 to ARINC 858 expected to be available in 2022.
Air-Ground IPS Management Messages were viewed to be in the purview of ICAO. The former Attachment 4 draft material will be forwarded to ICAO WG-I Security Subgroup for discussion and conclusion.
IPS Gateway Air-Ground Interoperability (presented as Appendix C) will describe the key functions and services that an IPS ground system will need to provide to support all types of aircraft. This document was viewed to be sufficiently unique and a candidate for a stand-alone ARINC Standard.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 16-18, 2021. The meeting format will be similar to recent IPS Subcommittee meetings, namely a series of online sessions.
