Ku/Ka Band Satellite (KSAT) Subcommittee Meeting Report. Meeting held January 15-17, 2019, in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

The Ku and Ka Band Satellite Communications (Satcom) Subcommittee reviewed inputs to Supplement 3 to ARINC Characteristic 791: Mark 1 Aviation Ku-Band and Ka-Band Satellite Communication System, Part 1, Physical Installation and Aircraft Interfaces, as authorized by APIM 16-006.

ARINC Characteristic 791 specifies an Aviation Ku and Ka Band satellite communication system capable of providing broadband voice, data, and video services intended for passenger communications and entertainment. Equipment form, fit, function, and interfaces are described.

Supplement 3 updates interfaces, provisions, and antenna blockage mounting. A Tail-Mounted Antenna (TMA) configuration and an optional virtual Airplane Personality Module (APM) were added. Clarifications and corrections, identified during standard implementation (feedthrough locations), are also included.

The subcommittee expressed support for the content of Supplement 3. The AEEC staff will prepare the final draft for industry review prior to adoption consideration at the AEEC General Session to be held April 29 to May 2, 2019, in Prague, Czech Republic.

The Ku/Ka Band Satcom Subcommittee drafted an APIM requesting authority to develop Supplement 1 to ARINC Characteristic 792: Second Generation Ku-Band and Ka-Band Satellite Communication System.

The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for June 2019 in Annapolis, Maryland.
