Ku/Ka Band Satellite (KSAT) Subcommittee Meeting Report. Meeting held January 21-23, 2020, in Carlsbad, California.

The Ku/Ka Band Satellite (KSAT) Subcommittee reviewed inputs to the following ARINC Standards:

  • Supplement 2 to ARINC Characteristic 791: Mark I Aviation Ku-band and Ka-band Satellite Communication System, Part 2, Electrical Interfaces and Functional Equipment Description
  • Supplement 1 to ARINC Characteristic 792: Second Generation Ku-band and Ka-band Satellite Communication System

The AEEC Network Infrastructure and Security (NIS) Subcommittee provided an update on ARINC Project Paper 848: Media Independent Secure Offboard Network. The KSAT Subcommittee concurred that a mature draft of ARINC Characteristic 791, Part 2 should be available by April 2021, and a mature draft of ARINC Characteristic 792 will be available by October 2021.

A draft APIM (20-001) was created: it requests authorization to define a new multi-modem Ku/Ka-band satcom system using fiber optic interwiring for both radio channel and Ethernet interconnections. The standard will leverage equipment form factors defined in ARINC Characteristic 792.

The next meeting will be virtual and is scheduled for June 23-26, 2020.
