Navigation Data Base (NDB) Subcommittee Meeting Report. Virtual meetings held October 4-7, 12, and 20, 2021.

The NDB Subcommittee reviewed 36 Working Papers for incorporation into Draft 4 of Supplement 23 to ARINC Specification 424: Navigation System Data Base. The following is a brief extract of what was discussed:

  • Lufthansa Systems FlightNav presented a proposal to remove the FACF requirement for localizer-based approaches. Lufthansa Systems FlightNav advised it would make sense to allow coding in ARINC 424 without a FACF on ILS/LOC final approaches, so that it could start at the FAF.
  • BAE System provided a proposal to update the half degree latitude waypoints, Section 7.2.5.B, to minimize confusion and reduce the propensity for gross navigation errors. BAE System reported an update to Section 7.2.5.B is necessary to provide guidance on properly identifying ½ latitude waypoints when host nation source does not provide a name for the applicable fix.
  • Jeppesen presented a request from the FAA PARC Navigation Working Group to bring to the NDB Subcommittee specifically related to procedures containing Extended Visual Segments (EVS).
  • Draft 4 of Supplement 23 to ARINC 424 will be finalized and presented to the AEEC Executive Committee for adoption in May 2022.

The next meeting of the NDB Subcommittee is scheduled for September 13-15, 2022. Details will be provided as they become available.
